Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

Austin is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Austin peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. I have known Drew for many years, and heβs the most knowledgeable person that I know concerning insectivorous plants. He has a lot of species which I have never seen for sale anywhere else, and all of his plants are an excellent condition. They have a handful of orchids here as well, but it is not what you would come here for.

EVERYTIME I visit Carnivero itβs like stepping into a new planet. Itβs so amazing that this exotic carnivorous plant store is only a 25 min drive from Austin! Drew and his staff are so knowledgeable and friendly, come find out how incredibly easy it is to become a carnivorous plant parent and say βgoodbyeβ to those peaky flys and fungus gnats for good. Pro tip: check out their Instagram, Palmstreet, and auctions for the best deals on the rarest plants.

Carnivero got me started on my carnivorous plant journey late last year, and we are super lucky to have such a unique nursery right here in Austin. Iβve ordered multiple plants both online and in their plant shop, and have had a positive experience every single time. Drew and staff are super knowledgeable on all things carnivores so donβt be afraid to ask away, as starting with these plants can feel overwhelming and daunting. From Nepenthes, VFTs, and pings, to anthuriums and other tropical; there is something for everyone, even beginners. Be sure to check out their socials so you can join their rare plant auctions to get some really fun and unique offerings

Iβve bought approximately 20 plants over the years from Carnivero at various times throughout the season. My purchases ranged from highland to Lowland, from cuttings, to XS seedlings and all have arrived in good health and thrived! The owner Drew has taken the time to educate me and has answered all of my plant questions which was key to my plants success. I highly recommend this nursery to anyone interested in growing carnivorous plants. Note: Here are 3 of my favorite purchases from L to R *Naga x Lowii *Lowii x Ephippiata *Naga x Truncata
